A Five-Day Product Advertising Photography Project for SO&U | 2015
In product advertising, a single photograph can make a brand stand out. Capturing that image often requires precision, technical expertise, patience, and the ability to deliver under pressure.
In 2015, C&G Photographers was commissioned by SO&U advertising agency to produce striking product advertising photographs for Guinness Extra Smooth. The assignment focused on the dramatic moment of the beer being poured into a glass, capturing the rich amber tones, flowing liquid, creamy foam, and distinctive character of the product.
The Challenge: Winning Confidence
In product advertising, a single photograph can make a brand stand out. Capturing that image often requires precision, technical expertise, patience, and the ability to deliver under pressure.
In 2015, C&G Photographers was commissioned by SO&U advertising agency to produce striking product advertising photographs for Guinness Extra Smooth. The assignment focused on the dramatic moment of the beer being poured into a glass, capturing the rich amber tones, flowing liquid, creamy foam, and distinctive character of the product.

The project presented a significant challenge even before the cameras started rolling. The shoot had initially been considered for production in South Africa, and SO&U needed confidence that C&G Photographers could achieve the required standard locally in Nigeria.
Winning the bid came with a demanding condition: Guinness wanted to see regular updates throughout the production and continue monitoring the results until they were satisfied.
This placed considerable pressure on both the agency and our team. We had to demonstrate our capabilities through the quality of the images while keeping the client informed throughout the process.
Five Days of Precision and Creativity
The assignment took five days of focused production. Photographing a Guinness pour required careful control of lighting, reflections, liquid movement, foam formation, bottle positioning, and the overall composition.
Every detail mattered. The rich, dark tones of the Guinness bottle had to remain distinct against the black background, while the golden highlights and flowing beer created the dramatic visual impact expected of a premium beverage advertisement.
Throughout the shoot, we provided regular progress updates, allowing the client to follow the work as it developed. This close collaboration made the assignment particularly demanding, but it also gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our technical control and commitment to the brief.
The Result: From Studio to Billboard
The hard work paid off. Guinness loved the final photographs, and the work went on to feature on a billboard.
What began as a challenging assignment requiring us to prove our capabilities became a successful demonstration of C&G Photographers’ ability to deliver high-quality product advertising photography under demanding conditions.
For us, this project represented more than a successful shoot. It demonstrated the value of technical expertise, persistence, client collaboration, and the confidence to take on ambitious creative challenges.
